Please note the editing process typically involves several stages, which I’ve listed in order below. But of course, your needs will depend on your budget, etc. Tell me your goals, and I’ll be glad to assist.
Developmental Editing (.03/word): Step 1
This involves the big picture, such as the structure, pacing, and development of your manuscript. For fiction, this includes elements like characterization, dialogue, and visual imagery as well.
This is the most extensive form of editing and typical first round. If you’re looking for a more affordable alternative, consider a manuscript evaluation or beta read.
Line Editing (.03/word): Step 2
This includes stylistic elements such as sentence structure, clarity, accessibility, and flow. Often line and copy editing can be combined, but it depends on the scope of the project.
Copy Editing (.02-.03/word): Step 3
This involves mechanics such as spelling, grammar, punctuation, consistency, and accuracy.
Proofreading (.012/word): Step 4
This is a final check for errors in spelling, punctuation, grammar, and formatting. This comes after your book is formatted for publication.

Manuscript Evaluation (.015/word)
This is an extensive write-up focusing on key areas for improvement. An assessment is more affordable than a line-by-line developmental edit and is a great option for writers on a budget.
Beta Reading (.008/word)
If you’re just looking for thoughts—a short critique, or 2-3 pages on what works and what doesn’t—this is the service for you.
